Hypebeasts: The avid followers of fashion trends

As a teenager, you would think I would know about all the latest fads, trends, and all the Tic-toc dances but I don't :).  Sometimes I am oblivious to pop culture trends. I wasn't surprised when I did not know what I hypebeast was.

Hypebeasts are the pro-surfers of fashion trends, they are always trying to catch the next wave. They are the first ones in line to buy the newest pair of Yeezy's or the newest $ 60,000 Birkin Bag.

Ther are many definitions of a hypebeast. They may specialize in spending the money of others to buy popular names in fashion or the may have so much money that they can afford to splurge on pricy items. The hypebeast mainly adheres to the streetwear style.

Flame Kicks🔥

A hypebeast needs to have the coolest kicks or they will not be allowed into the renowned society of the Hypebeast. A trademark for the hypebeast is sneakers. Sneakers are babies for Hypebeast. If you scuff them you will have hell to pay. Keeping them clean is the ultimate goal, they should always look fresh out the box. Nikes, Air Jordans, Yeezy's, and Balenciagas are on the hypebeast shopping list.

Brands on top of brands 😎

You may be thinking "Why is this guy wearing so many hoodies?" or "Is he that cold?". The answers to your questions are " It is his swag." and "Probably not." Fun fact: each hoodie he is wearing cost about $450 each. Wearing a head to toe look in the same brand is another part of hypebeast culture.
This surpasses the Adidas Tracksuit. Matching is essential. The hat has to match with the shoes and the pants to match with the top. This trend can also be leisurely with layering hoodies and sweaters and t-shirts.

 Let's Collab

The collaboration between popular designer brands has become another wave that hypebeast hope to catch.  Collaborations are important for designers because they allow companies to expand their general market. Collaborations increase the excitement over a brand's new look which brings in a wider audience. The Louis Vuitton and Supreme collaboration brought a flock of hypebeast.

The Anomaly that is Supreme

Supreme is the ultimate symbol of status. When supreme drops a new line, hundreds of people line up outside a store for hours and sometimes days in advance to await the opening of their locations. People make a trip out of getting the lastest Supreme looks. For example, the Supreme in Cardiff received visitors from multiple countries all to receive their own Supreme gear. This brand has a loyal fandom. The hypebeast is a dedicated member of this fandom and are probably amongst this crowd. Supreme has a global following. The brand's exclusivity and limited stock increase the desire for this brand.

Wearing the brand or advertising the brand?

The hypebeast aesthetic makes me wonder.  Where do we draw the line between advertising the brand and wearing the brand? How we make a brand our own? Wearing brands is okay as long as one does not equate their personal value with the clothes that they wear.
