"Smells like Teenage Spirit": A look in to fashion of the 90s

The embrace of bold and bright colors was a trend that carried over into the 90s. People still wore their neon windbreakers and their baby doll dresses to complete their outfits
In the early 90’s, people could not resist dawning on all the colors of the rainbow. Their outfits were as florescent as their personalities. Women in the 90s were known for wearing bright colors on sweatshirts, crop tops, and leather jackets with shoulder pads, and denim jackets.

Crop Tops were a go-to for a 90’s summer look. Exposing your belly- button was a trend that I personally I’m no fan of but hey it was the ‘90s. Whether crop tops were worn by Britney Spears, Halle Berry, or TLC  crop tops were a go-to.

Sweatshirts with athletic bottoms were also a trend for athletic wear of the period that was even followed by royalty. Even Princess Diana wore her favorite sweatshirt with her running shorts for the morning grind. Outfits like this are even repeated today by people like Haley Bieber.

Not only was the leather jacket common in the ‘80s it was also popular in the ‘90s. Leather jackets went with anything from a graphic tee and jeans to a dress. Leather jacket could be causal with a graphic tee and jeans or more edgy with a pair of Doc Martens and fishnet stockings.

The oversized denim jacket is a trend of the ‘80s and ‘90s that has become an essential piece in our closets today. The bigger the jacket the better, if your jacket didn’t look twice your size then you were not doing it right.

The Mid-90s

The mid-90’s brought about more sophistication and polished look to ‘90s fashion. Fashion shifted away from the baggy clothes of years past and became more focused on luminescent fabrics, printed clothing, pantsuits, and hot pants.

The Shiny Obsession

From dresses to skirts the obsession with all things that shined was not only embraced it was standard for women to wear all things that shined. Styles like these not only made you look like the best-dressed person in a room it also made you look like the brightest person in the room. Looks like these were worn from the classroom to a night out on the town.

Print It!
From Gingham to Plaid people of the ‘90s did not shy away from anything bold. If you could you dressed from head to toe in a print. Prints could go either way be a grunge look or preppy. A grunge look was flannel with a graphic tee and baked (quick definition: hella dirty shoes) converse. A this was a fun and playful look for people of the decade.

The ‘90s brought about a time where personal style was based on no one else but yourself. It was more exciting for people to dress like themselves rather than dressing like everyone else. YOU have style. You may not know that but what you wear is a reflection of yourself show people who you are and don’t regret it.

PEACE MY FRIENDS!
Nothing but love….
