Keep it simple: a look into minimalist fashion

Minimalism is a trend fashion where less is more. It is more of a sustainable approach to fashion by working with your items of clothing to make a simple and effective look.  By limiting the number of your selection of clothing, it forces you to take a maximalist approach and make use of the items that you do have. Think of it as a puzzle, you don't really know what fits until you try it out. For this aesthetic buying, more expensive items with greater longevity are better than buying cheap items with a short shelf life.

Let's face it how many times have we looked at our closet full of clothes and say, " I have nothing to wear!". This is the dreaded curse of indecision or for me a typical Monday morning. The minimalist aesthetic is a closet full of all the clothes that you can't live without. It's not necessarily getting rid of half your closet but it is keeping the items that you truly love. Take a tip from Marie Kondo and only keep the items that make you "sparkle joy" and donate or sell the items that you can live without.

It is important to address what minimalism is not.

Minimalism is not purging your closet of all colors. The minimalist aesthetic allows you to keep the pieces that you like whether it is a psychedelic t-shirt or a pair of bright red overalls. Monotone colors and patterns are not necessarily throwaways.

Taking a minimalist approach does not mean that all of the items in your closet are void of excitement. Contrary to belief, adopting a minimalist aesthetic means keeping all the items that you find that you know makes you feel confident.

Casual wear and minimalist fashion are not synonymous. Meaning that minimalism is not a bore but a different view of fashion. Ease and effortlessness are the goals of minimalist fashion.

Let's start with the basics...

A colorful blazer, a plain white tee, and a pair of high waisted jeans are all you need to create this look. See, color and minimalism do go together! Putting the blazer with the pair of jeans are the ingredients for a textbook business casual look.

The Understated White Shirt

The white shirt is an essential building block for an outfit. A white button-down shirt paired with wide-leg trousers is one of many ways to wear this shirt. A white t-shirt can be dressed down with a pair of shorts and a belt. For a more seasonal look, layer a collared white tee with an oversized sweater, and a coat.

The Laidback T-shirt Dress

The t-shirt dress go-to item for womenswear. This dress is simple and puts an innovative twist on the t-shirt dress.

 Avoid over-accessorizing.

Minimalists can never under accessorize but always run the risk for over-accessorizing. Simplicity is key. Jewelry is meant to enhance the outfit but not mean to be the star of the outfit.

I am definitely not a minimalist when it comes to what I wear so learning about this approach to style makes me want to try out this aesthetic for myself.
