Shatter Tradition: A look into the innovation style of in the 1960s

Fashion in the 1960s was a rebellion against the formality of the 1950s.  During this time, there was a population of nine million young adults (those who are 24 and under). This brought about time where fashion had embodied the free, experimental,  and passionate spirit of young people. Young people were the leading authority at this time this was referred to as the "Youth Quake" (because young people disrupted fashion). The embodied a deviation from the 1950s' focus on Haute Couture and a shift to ready to wear clothing. Fashion in the 1950s' was centered around individualism and catering to the body types of clients. The creation of a dress was focused on hugging the curves of a woman's body rather than hiding them. Fashion before 1950 was created for utility to facilitate the work that women had to do during WWII. Post-WWII Society allowed Americans to indulge in consumerism.  Fashion in the 50s is a result of the rejection of the masculine and rigid clothes of WWII.  Designers like Christian Dior, Givenchy, and Chanel introduced new designs that would set the precedent for this decade. Women ditched their jumpsuits for the “New Look”. Christian Dior introduced his collection called the “New Look” in 1947. Fashion in the 50s' was a rebellion against the over masculine fashion of the 40s. This collection featured cinched-waists, exposed shoulders, mid-length skirts, prints, and the hourglass silhouette. Dripping throughout the decades. Key terms: Drip: immense swag (Urban Dictionary) Iced-out: an intense display of material wealth (Urban Dictionary)  Fashion is cycle. Trends and designs can easily make a comeback. Throughout the next couple of weeks, I will discuss what means to look good in reference to innovation within fashion. I will start my timeline from the 1950s and end in the present. Fashion of the past and fashion today are intermixed, my blog posts will show what trends have made a resurgence. Fashion is dependent on culture.  Groups like the Black Panthers wore leather jackets and berets, indicative of their militant and passionate approach to achieving the rights that they feel African Americans deserve. Or the rising importance of separates in the '70s and '80s as more women entered the workforce. Furthermore, I  will talk about counterculture in the late '60s through the '70s that brought looser silhouettes as the hippy culture grew. The ...
